State Workforce Development Board

Under House Bill 1302, the Education and Workforce Strategy Act, the State Workforce Development Board (SWDB) is attached for operational purposes to the Governor's Office of Education and Workforce Strategy (GOEWS). In support of the Board, GOEWS, the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG), and the Georgia Department of Education (DOE) work together to facilitate its work and align the statewide planning and approvals that shape Georgia's talent strategy.

Several key GOEWS responsibilities require SWDB approval:

The Combined Perkins/WIOA State Plan, which sets Georgia's direction for federal career, technical, and workforce programs.

The High Demand Career List , identifying the occupations most important to Georgia's economy and directing where education and training investments should go.

The Return on Investment (ROI) Report, which measures how well the state's education and workforce programs are performing.

The Statewide Education and Workforce Plan, developed with the state's education agencies and the Department of Labor.

By carrying out these functions together, the partner agencies give Georgia a single, coordinated approach to preparing students and workers for the state's economy.
